Hakshiva’s School Placement Program was developed to assist parents who are struggling with the educational system in Israel. Many parents, native and immigrant, lack the familiarity necessary to navigate this rather challenging system. Few know where to turn when a child is struggling in school, is out of the formal school framework or is just ready to move on to a different setting.

Educational difficulties can take on many shapes and forms. The municipal educational department has a framework that is meant to assist parent and child, helping students flourish and experience educational success within the system. The Educational Department of Beit Shemesh, as with many others in Israel, is not always positioned to offer the necessary assistance. Hakshiva’s School Placement Program steps to in to fill the void.

Hakshiva’s Educational Coordinator stands ready to assist parents and children with their educational needs. A meeting is arranged to assess the child’s history and his needs. When necessary, contact is made with the school or other concerned parties to further clarify the situation. For some families, all that is necessary is a recommendation of a number of potential schools. Others need more. Various approaches can be explored including a meeting with a truant officer, beginning the stages necessary for a vaadat hasama (placement committee) application, and more, with supportive professional and caring follow up.
